Black Beauty's Resting Spot

I thought I would show you where I put "Black Beauty" my granny square blanket.  I think she looks pretty on the back of our sofa in our living room.
This is a Lazy Boy sofa - it has two recliners - one on each end.  It is so comfortable.
Here's a closer look at the fabric covering the sofa.  I fell in love with it.  I like the cottage feel of it.

The colonial style coffee table was passed down from my parents.  The top is worn so I covered it with a small rug.

We Love Black Beauty!

Today I finished Black Beauty!

My teddy bears love her!

Beauty started out as a throw but she turned into a blanket.  Her finished size is 6 feet by 7 feet... 14 granny square rows by 16 granny squares or 224 granny squares total.  You may remember that I used 16 different colors plus white and black to outline the granny squares.  The yarn is Caron Simply Soft, a 4 ply, 100% acrylic super duper very soft yarn.  I used an H hook.

I have lots of left over granny squares (67!) from this project and am already planning what to do with them.  But it's a secret so you will have to wait to see what I do.

I thought I would NEVER finish the edging - it just ate up the yarn.  I just had enough of the off white color to finish the last round.  I wish you could see her in person as I must admit she is quite a beauty.

I can't get the teddies to leave her!

She is almost too large to lay out in our family room.  This photo is slightly out of focus but I was standing on a small step stool holding the camera way up above my head to try to get the whole blanket in the photo.   What lengths we bloggers will go through to get our photos.  LOL!

All nicely folded.  This is the fanciest edging I've ever done.  I slightly modified an edging I liked from one of my pattern books.

The black and white really makes the granny squares POP!

My next project is to crochet a baby throw for our great nephew, Lucas, who is due to POP out into the world in November.   When I mentioned to my SIL that my hubby and I would become a great Uncle and great Aunt... she replied we already were "GREAT."  Wasn't that sweet?

I also blogged about Black Beauty (here), (here), (here) and (here).

Black Beauty - A Work In Progress

It’s Mosaic Monday!

I'm making progress on my huge 288 granny square blanket project.   I've named this blanket "Black Beauty"!  So far I have finished eight rows of black squares by the "join as you go" method.  Whew...and I won't even be half way until nine rows are done.  Previous posts on Black Beauty (here).

The black really makes the colors POP!

Setting up colors...row by row

This yarn, "Simply Soft", is so super duper soft.  It feels wonderful!
But.. black yarn is a bear to crochet!
Black Beauty... not even half done....
Blog on over to our host Mary at The Little Red House (here) for more Mosaic Monday!  Thanks for visiting me.

It's Grown to 288 Granny Squares!

Finally...all of the white rounds of the 18 color sets are finished...I even sewed all the dreaded ends in...and packed them in plastic bags.   I first blogged about this WIP (here) and (here).

I laid them all out on the carpet in rows sorted by 2nd round color.

You can see the one granny square that I edged in black so far.

Row after row of colors.

Where I didn't want to have the first two rounds the same color I used gray as the second round color in the row (i.e., instead of blue on blue it is gray on blue etc.).

This WIP measures 16 granny squares by 18 granny squares or 288 granny squares total.   I think it will be a larger sized throw than I originally planned by the time the final black round is added.  I'm not sure if I will do the colors by row as shown here or mix them up more.  It may be a more colorful throw mixed up.

What do you think - sort by color or mix up?

Candy Sundae

Candy Colors....

Candy Sundae....

All that is missing is the whipped cream, nuts and cherry!

Don't the "dreaded ends" make a beautiful candy, colored sundae?

Come join me on the porch.

What favors do you like?

Have a seat.  It's nice to have you here.

Two Hundred and Twenty Five Granny Squares

The start...My COLORS!

First round of granny squares - one set of fifteen for each of the 15 colors...

This should equal 225 granny squares when I am done.  This is the number I plan to use for my throw.

Second round of granny square...each color set in first round has different color added in the second round so all fifteen colors are used.

Third round of granny squares - a white round is added around each set of colors...

The last round (4th) of the granny square will be a band of black for each set.

I plan to add a border of some or maybe even all of the colors.  It should be a very colorful throw by the time I am done.  It may take me all of summer to finish this one.   I'm thinking of trying the "join as you go" stitch when I do the last round of black.

Wish me luck!
