Our Cottage Stripes Powder Bath Room

Several years before I retired I was in a local stencil shop and fell in love with their striped and flowered stenciled wall display.

All excited I bought their flowered stencil, paints and supplies and started the first step of my project painting "stripes" onto our first floor powder bathroom walls.

I marked lightly in pencil the placement and width of my stripes all around the room.

I used blue painter's tape to keep my stripes straight and neat... filling in the stripes with Benjamin Moore's "Oriental Silk" flat paint.

This fancy gold mirror came with the house when we moved in back in 2000.

I doubt I would ever buy a mirror in this style but I use what I have.

A pretty basket.

My solution for holding the necessary toilet paper rolls.

The white foot chest is from Pottery Barn as is the white glass door cabinet in the first photo.

The chest nicely holds the rest of my bathroom supplies.

{{And is always covered with magazines for us to read while busy doing you know what...

but I prettied up the photo shoot just for you!}}

I love the little fabric covered night light shade (also purchased from Pottery Barn).

While I'm still in love with the look in this little room I hope I never have to paint a tiny powder room again.

I was sore for days after this project.

Oh..yeah...you noticed I never got around to stenciling it.

I decided I liked it just with the simple stripes.

{{I'm sure my stencil paint is dried out by now.}}

That's all folks!

Cottage & Red

Cottage and RED just go together!

A beautiful quilted red and white checkered bedspread.

And a chipped, vintage iron bed frame in white.  Love it.

A vintage white hutch with red trim showcasing vintage dishes in red and white.

Pretty red and blue dishes in florals and poke a dots.

A kitchen filled with vintage aprons and tins... all touched with red...and a red chair.

Three cute painted little chairs and I want that red and white rug!

Be still my beating heart!

I love the blue and white striped painted floor with that fantastic red and white quilt bedspread.

And what a cute foot stool in red and white fabric design.

I love the painted red bottom cabinets with white ones on top.

I'm dying to paint my wood oak cabinets.

Ok - I know ~ only one project at a time.

I'm still fussing with my Guest Bathroom curtains that I blogged about (here)...stay tuned to see the final results.

And I'm working on the border/edging of my little red and white striped crochet rug.

Red and White stripes.

P.S.

I'm doing a "shout out" about my Christmas blog ~ Sandy Snowflake (here).

It's up and running so hop on over and take a look.

It's dedicated 24/7, 365 days just to Christmas.

There's lots of RED there to drool over daily.

Thanks for taking the time to visit me and have a lovely day.

UPDATE 2PM:

We just had an earthquake here!
!
Hubby is out running errands and I was sitting at my computer pinning and blogging and all of a sudden the whole house started shaking!  I mean really shaking...it scared me to death.   Lasted maybe a minute but seemed like forever.  I could feel the whole house just shaking hard...it was so scary.

The TV news is finally reporting it.  It was centered NW of Richmond and 87 miles SW of D.C.  They are reporting the magnitude at 5.9 maybe even 6.0.

This is the 2nd earthquake I have felt since living here in SE Pennsylvania.  Maybe you folks out on the West Coast are use to this but not me.  Tornadoes...yes....use to them.  Earthquakes...no...NOT!

Sitting Pretty!

Sitting Pretty!

My teddy bears, Sam and Tiercy, are wishing you a very wonderful summer weekend!

Sam is the brown Ty bear and Tiercy is the cute, girl bear with the rose head band.  Tiercy is my paternal Grandmother's name and I always thought that it was an unusual and pretty name which fits this adorable teddy bear just perfectly.

Vintage Wicker and two cute Teddy Bears, Tiercy and Sam.

This vintage wicker chair is one of a pair handed down from my paternal Grandparents to my parents and then to me.

I first remember seeing them on my Grandparents' screened porch in a house they were renting in either Akron or Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio back in the 1950s.

My Mom had the cushions recovered in this pretty fabric for her Florida room years ago.  Check out one of my previous posts (here) about my sewing project with some of this left over fabric.

These images from Flickr inspire me...to someday make a crocheted rug.

Some of these are made out of T-shirt knit fabric strips.

Many years ago my sister-in-law gave me a crochet pamphlet on making rugs out of plastic bag strips.

I hope one of these days I can put this project on my "to do" list.

How about you?

Are you inspired to try one?

Vintage Embroidered Hankerchiefs

I'm old enough to remember the beautifully embroidered and crocheted linen
handkerchief
days before the mass production of paper tissue (Kleenex).

I have a small collection of vintage embroidered/crocheted handkerchiefs...some from my childhood and others that belonged to my Mother-in-law.

Vintage Embroidered Hankies

Isn't this beautiful!

Look at how tiny these stitches are!

Isn't the red embroidered one unique?

So pretty!

I love, love these beautiful hankies!

The flowered pattern one on the right with the blue edging is different...isn't it?

As pretty as these hankies were, if you had a serious cold, they just didn't do the job.

My Mother, who was a working woman in the 1950s, wouldn't let us kids stay home from school unless we had a fever.  So, I went to school with some serious head colds.  I remember taking my Dad's large white men's handkerchief to grade school for one particularly bad cold.  I also remember being pretty miserable that day.

I crochet (with yarn) but I don't think I could crochet with thread and hook this tiny.  Just imagine the work involved in crocheting the teeny, tiny stitches in each of these hankies.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my vintage linens!

Thanks for visiting me.

I like the ones with the door frames trimmed in black...that really makes the RED pop.

Whenever we get around to replacing our front door I'm considering a shade of RED.
