I finally added some annuals on the side of our porch (to the left in the above picture).
We plan to have the downspouts buried and maybe install a small stone paver patio in front of the porch with a half wall around the River Birch tree. And possibly throw in a small water feature....after all one can dream!
We can't believe how fast this River Birch tree has grown.
We get the hot afternoon sun on the porch but with the growth of the River Birch tree and Leyland cypresses we finally have more shade here now.
