I Can't Help It

I can't help it...I'm thinking of Christmas already.

Maybe it's because of seeing all the snow on the mountains here in Alaska.    Or maybe it's because I am crocheting my "Merry Kringle" Christmas throw.

Christmas is my favorite time of the year and I love to decorate in reds and greens. This is a photo of our family room from Christmas 2008.

We love this Christmas tree but have decided it is just too heavy for us to drag up and down the basement stairs every year so we are giving it to one of our relatives.   I may replace it with a slim, lighter tree.   I love the new slim trees.  Do you?

Anyone else out there already planning Christmas?  Or am I the only one?

Just a note that Monday evening we will be boarding a ferry from Haines, Alaska, to the state of Washington.  We will be on the ferry four nights.  Unfortunately we learned the ferry doesn't have any internet service soooo unless I can schedule some posts ahead of time to post while we are on the ferry you won't hear from me for at least 4 days next week.   It will seem so strange to leave the state of Alaska and....to not have internet service.

My Pitcher Collection

I posted about my miniature China Pitcher Collection in a previously post (here).

I thought my collection made a nice mosaic to share with you again.

The pitchers on the left (green top) and on the right (gold top) were my paternal Grandmothers.  My Mother had these displayed for years and I always loved them.  The middle tall one (white with flowers) I bought on a trip to Williamsburg, Virginia.  The remaining two were my MILs.

The two larger pitchers (tan one and the brown one with white cherries) also were passed down from my paternal Grandmother.   The two small white ones to the right were my MILs.  And the little black pewter one to the left was a gift from a friend who visited Hawaii.

The ones in the front on this shelf were passed down from my MIL.  I think they are so cute.

It is difficult to find these pitchers anymore I always look for them when I travel especially the bone china ones.  I cherish these for the memories they bring of loved ones.

Alaska Highway - Whitehorse, Yukon

Here is more on our trip to Alaska this summer.  We finally made it to Whitehorse, Yukon (Canada) on June 14.  This is a beautiful town on the Yukon River.

We stayed at an RV Park just outside of town.  It was pretty filled up with an RV caravan group.

This is the Miles Canyon suspension bridge over the Yukon River in Whitehorse.  Many a gold seeker, making their way north on the Yukon River water route, lost their lives on the rapids that use to be here before the dam was built.

More of the canyon.  The water is a deep, green shade.

There's always a friendly person to take our photo.

Whitehorse is a beautiful city and the capital of the Yukon Territory.  We enjoyed our time there.  After viewing the canyon from above we took a cruise down the river the next day.

Here's our boat to cruise down the Yukon River.

Another view of the suspension bridge over the Yukon River.  This one from our boat.

Another day we toured the S.S. Klondike dry-docked in Whitehorse next to the river.  This is a stream boat that traveled up and down the Yukon River carrying passengers and cargo.  It has been beautifully restored.

Downtown Whitehorse hubby spotted these cute bike parking garages.  Aren't they a hoot!  This is a very physical city...everyone riding bikes, hiking or walking.   Well, everyone..that is...except us!

I spotted this HUGE, wooded statue of a Royal Mounted Policeman in front of a downtown hotel.  Isn't it neat!

I thought I would leave you with a view of the surrounding gorgeous scenery from downtown Whitehorse.

What a beautiful setting for a town.
