Alaska Highway - Whitehorse, Yukon

Here is more on our trip to Alaska this summer.  We finally made it to Whitehorse, Yukon (Canada) on June 14.  This is a beautiful town on the Yukon River.

We stayed at an RV Park just outside of town.  It was pretty filled up with an RV caravan group.

This is the Miles Canyon suspension bridge over the Yukon River in Whitehorse.  Many a gold seeker, making their way north on the Yukon River water route, lost their lives on the rapids that use to be here before the dam was built.

Whitehorse is a beautiful city and the capital of the Yukon Territory.  We enjoyed our time there.  After viewing the canyon from above we took a cruise down the river the next day.

Another day we toured the S.S. Klondike dry-docked in Whitehorse next to the river.  This is a stream boat that traveled up and down the Yukon River carrying passengers and cargo.  It has been beautifully restored.

Downtown Whitehorse hubby spotted these cute bike parking garages.  Aren't they a hoot!  This is a very physical city...everyone riding bikes, hiking or walking.   Well, everyone..that is...except us!  

I spotted this HUGE, wooded statue of a Royal Mounted Policeman in front of a downtown hotel.  Isn't it neat!   

I thought I would leave you with a view of the surrounding gorgeous scenery from downtown Whitehorse.

You all are probably wondering where I am...if I am home yet from our trip to Alaska.  Well, the answer is "nope" I'm not home yet.  We re-entered the good old USA today from British Columbia, Canada, and we are now in Haines, Alaska, for the next week.  Next Monday we will drive our 5th wheel travel trailer (33 feet) and truck onto a ferry here in Haines for a four day cruise down the coastal waters to the state of Washington.  Today is our 80th day traveling since leaving home.  I hope to post more highlights from our trip soon.  Unfortunately we have been limited in our downloading capability while on the road.   

I took more photos of flowers here in Alaska (these were taken in Valdez, Alaska) - they are so pretty - I can't resist them.  We have to pay for our internet service at this campground and they stated we should only use it to access emails.  I'll probably get kicked off for blogging and downloading photos.  LOL!  

I'm so thrilled that I now have over 100 followers (little old me!) and almost 20,000 hits since I started blogging back in November 2009.   I just love blogging and love all the new friends I've made in less than a year.  So, a big THANKS to all of you who follow my blog and to those who drop in to visit.

Minky

Say "Hello" to Minky.  

 "Minky" is made out of an old mink stole that belonged to my dear MIL.  One of my BIL's wife's took the mink and had it made into three teddy bears for each of the three DILs.  She surprised us one Christmas with our beautiful teddies.  Every time I look at it I think of my sweet MIL and my thoughtful BIL's wife.  I am so lucky to be part of such a wonderful family.

I have such fond memories of the dishes here.  The cranberry edged one and frosted pink one were my Mother's and she always used these on holidays and Sunday dinners.  It had a smaller matching pink one that, unfortunately, I broke accidentally a few years ago.  

My hubby and I eat in our dining room once a year - if we are lucky.  My Mother made a fancy Sunday dinner EVERY Sunday and she worked outside the home!  I don't know how she did it.  And we dressed up!  I remember putting on an apron to protect our "good" outfits when cleaning the kitchen up.  LOL!  How times have changed.
