Vintage Apron Patterns

My paternal Grandmother was a wonderful seamstress.  She made dresses for all of her granddaughters every year and christening outfits for several of her grandchilden.  Here are four of her apron patterns - one Butterick and three McCalls.  All of these patterns cost 25 cents apiece.  Now it's been many a year since I bought any patterns but a few years ago I sat down in the pattern section of Joanne Fabrics and was shocked at the high price of patterns.  I have lots of aprons passed down from my Mother and my MIL which I hope to post about one of these days.

Here's a closer look at the patterns.

I remember wearing aprons while growing up mostly on Sundays after church helping with Sunday dinner in the kitchen.   We didn't have as many clothes as we do now a days so back then we protected our good Sunday dresses.  We didn't play in our school clothes either - we changed when we came home and put on our play clothes.  My parents took me to Sears and Roebucks in August every year before the start of school and bought me one new school dress and a new pair of school shoes.  I was so proud to wear a new outfit to school the first day.  Boy, have times changed.

I have to get some pretty new fabric and make these aprons!  I miss sewing and these would be fun to make.

  1. Hi Sandy, Lucky you. What cute apron patterns. I've been looking for some too. You really must get some cute fabric and get sewing. I made a few aprons last winter and have a new pattern drawn up for another and I must get busy too. Before Spring and all the outside work starts. I see you got the snow that we did. I am so ready to mow lawn.

  2. Sandy, I love these apron patterns. I remember my Grandmother & in early days, my Mom always had aprons. Work aprons & fancy ones for serving. Those were different times weren't they? LOVE your patterns. Thank you for sharing the with us. Hope you do post some of those aprons. I would love to see them.

Also, thank you for your sweet words of support for the loss of our sweet Reba. And for sharing the story of your sweet Dusty. I can't imagine the anger at the builder!!!! Oh this loss is indeed almost unbearable. My eyes are swollen puffs. THE HOUSE SCREAMS WITH QUIET! Her rugs are still there, the food bowl gone but, SHE is everywhere I look... yet no where to be found. My heart is broken & I feel so ALONE! I am so sorry you happened upon my blog on an unhappy time because I pride myself in upbeat but, life does deal us some crushing blows & our friends (old & new) help us through. Thank you for your support & kindness. Please come back to visit again. HUGS! Charlene

  4. Hi Sandy Thanks for visiting my blog, please do call again. These old patterns brought back memories - I think I still have a few tucked away somewhere. I still wear an apron when I am cooking, as I like to look neat and smart if any one calls at the farm, so I can whip my apron off quickly before answering the door. Maybe I am old fashioned.
