Giddy over Gingham

I'm giddy over gingham.

Especially the gingham pattern in my little Gingham Blanket.

I started following the pattern for the border and added two rounds of double crochet in the rudy red and liked it but decided to "do my own thing" and added more colors (watermelon and white) and different stitches for the next five rounds.

It's a little blankie just right for a baby.

I didn't write down the pattern for the border - but it's just repeating a double crochet, one chain in each space around with  three double crochets at the corner space.  

Really I just "winged it" at the corners adding with I needed so it wouldn't curl up.

The last round is single crochet, chain two in each space all the way around.

I'm pleased with the results.

  The little blankie measures 30 and 1/2 inches by 26 inches including the border.

It's right at home piled here with my other afghans - Rainbow Scrap Afghan and Waikiki Wild Flower Blanket.

It's a good day to stay inside and crochet.  

It's a damp, overcast lousy day and yesterday was foggy all day long.

So, do I do a little project now?

Or jump in with a larger one?

I'm trying to use up yarn in my stash.

I'm thinking of doing a white throw with tiny touches of black in it.  

Believe it or not my inspiration for the white and black throw was a bathroom tile floor Sarah Richardson designed for one of her shows. 

Not sure what I'm going to do next...too many cute patterns and not enough time.

UP !

This morning I hung up my Royal Albert saucers. 

I bought this set in Canada while on our Alaska RV trip in 2010. 

You can read all about the teacups (here). 

 I do love to hang stuff on my walls. 

 Hubby wishes I didn't... but me lets me anyways (thanks Sweetie!)

I used plate hangers in two sizes.

I like Bard's because they have little tiny plastic sheeves on their ends to protect the dishes.

Even though these saucers are small the 5 inch to 8 inch hangers worked better then the 3.5 to 5 inch ones.

Unfortunately, I had to use what I had on hand.

I traced around the plates (using paper towels) and with tape positioned them where I thought the saucers would look smashing.  

Then I marked through the paper on the wall where to put the hooks.  

I measured and eyeballed the placement.  

Now if Hubby hung them for me they would have been perfect because he measures everything!

I like them here.

This was an area without any decoration and the saucers bring color and interest to this corner of the room.

Ta daaa!

Slowly I'm getting closer to the end of my Rainbow Scrap Afghan. 

 One more color row after the white here and I'm caught up to where I was before having to frog.

I'm glad now I frogged it because my edges are completely even now.

What Now? Lots Going On!

Now that I have some plate wall hangers maybe I can get around to hanging these Royal Albert teacup saucers.

I have the matching cups hanging from our ceiling light fixture in our dinette.

I'm loving the "back" of my Rainbow Scrap Afghan.

The "back" is folded over onto the "Front" in these two photos.

It's kind of a wavy rainbow stripe affect.

I'm in SHOCK !

Guess where we booked a tour for next April with our friends from college?

I'm stepping out of my comfort zone to travel abroad to England, Wales and Scotland. 

This will be my first trip across the pond.  

 I'm so excited because I love English history and have always wanted to visit the United Kingdom.

So my dear UK blogging friends what's your weather like in mid April to early May? 

 We want to travel VERY light..but still be dressed appropriately.

Nothing fancy just comfortable clothing for travel.

Yesterday we ordered some neat travel clothing that comes with tons of pockets...zippered pockets and hidden pockets.  Gee, maybe I can leave my purse at home.  

We also ordered and received some underwear that is lightweight, fast drying - that you can wash out in the sink and let dry overnight.  

We're going to try out some travel clothes on our trip to Walt Disney World in November.  

Next year is going to be very busy for us with two Walt Disney World trips already reserved, now the UK tour abroad booked and we're also thinking of another travel van trip to Alaska during the summer.

I better get busy and prepare lunch for Hubby.

And then maybe I can do a little crocheting!

Frogging Done...and Not Much Else!

I frogged back to my unravel spot. 

 I like the cute teeny, tiny balls of yarn frogging creates.

Two color rows are re-crocheted. 

Thirteen color rows to re-do.

I added two little Hershey chocolate mugs to this collection of four little coffee mugs. 

 Just what I need...more mugs! 

 LOL !

Hubby went to jury duty early this morning. 

I miss him! 

 Now that we are retired I love having him around 24/7. 

 I have to eat lunch by myself.

Pity party here!

Not much to crow about here this morning. 

 Just a relaxing day ahead...

 although I have projects I should work on...

 but they may be set aside again.

Oh..No..Not Again !

Do you have this happen to you?

See that little, short navy blue thread !!!

There I was late last night crocheting away and as I finished the first green color rows (of my last section) I noticed something strange on the edge of my afghan many rows back.

A loose thread somehow came undone 13 color rows back! 

 There's no way to repair it without frogging.

I was a teeny tiny upset when I went to bed last night. 

 But this morning when I mentioned it to Hubby about how upset I was - wouldn't you know he made me feel better. 

 Because... as he reminded me... it's just crocheting - whether it's a new section or reworking an old section.

It's the love of crocheting and not just finishing a project.

Hubby has jury duty tomorrow - a good time for me to rip it out.

I know I will feel better once it is fixed.

It's a beautiful day here!

I love this time of the year.

Red Alert !

Yesterday I took down my tan and white Cabin Check Country Curtains valances and hung up my new RED Buffalo Check valances.

This is a different style (i.e., pleated scalloped vs. Austrian valance) and it's nice to have a change.   I still have to fan these out correctly.

 I usually switch out my valances every six months putting the lighter colored ones up for spring and summer and my burgundy ones for fall and winter.

These are labeled as RED but the color is closer to burgundy. 

 It's more of a dark red than a bright red.

Our new Lazy Boy chairs are being delivered tomorrow. 

 That's when I will know if the new valances go with the new furniture.

We should have more room in our family room after the old huge five piece modular unit is taken away which included a two seat double bed sleeper sofa, two recliners, a huge corner seat and an armless chair. 

 The five piece modular unit was really bought for our previous home where we had a long and narrow family room. 

 In its place we will have four chairs only and no sofa.

My Rainbow Scrap afghan is coming along. 

Sorry this photo is burry - it's dark out today.

But it shows the color sections for you to see.  

The two sections to the left are the ones I added more shades of yarn to each color section.

 I've just finished working up another red shade section (the 4th one) and will start on another section of the oranges and yellows.

Here at Teacup Lane Today...

The sun is shining here finally. 

 It's suppose to be nice the next five days. I hope it stays nice because we're going to the largest RV Show in the USA this Thursday - the Hershey RV Show in Hershey, PA. 

 We're meeting 66 other Pleasure Way travel van owners at a campground for a four day rally while the RV show is running.

I had another episode of soreness in my hip this weekend. 

I woke up yesterday and my hip was better but my lower back wasn't. 

My Dad use to say "Getting old isn't for sissies!"

 I guess I shouldn't complain about aches and pains because I know things could be worst.

So I'm resting with two heating pads (one for my hip and another for my back) and I guess the plus factor is resting is giving me plenty of time to crochet and watch my recorded TV programs. 

 Oh, last night I watched "The Vow," with Tatum Channing on cable. 

 I loved it. 

 He's great! 

 What a beautiful love story and it is based on a true story.

I'm sure you Blogger bloggers have seen the message regarding Blogger removing the old interface "in a few days". 

 I just don't care for the look of their new interface. 

 There doesn't seem to be any way to personalize it either. 

 It just seems like such a drastic change. 

 I wish they left it alone and just made it easier to do different headers. 

 That was my only issue.

It's so wonderful to have sunshine and light flowing into our home after days of darkness and rain.

 Hubby said our rain was from the recent hurricane down south. 

 Hard to believe it could stretch this far north.
