Christmas Wine Glass Candle Light

I saw this idea for a Christmas Wine Glass Candle Light on Pinterest and just loved it.

And I had to try it.

Now it's nighttime when I took most of these photos and you know the problem with low light so these aren't the best photos.

You know I like to use stuff I already have from around my house.

I found a large wine glass and filled it with some Epsom Salts and a battery flickering multi-colored candle light.

I used my Santa Christmas Shade - it's in shades of red and green with an old fashioned Santa printed on the fabric.

And has the prettiest button rosettes around the top of the shade.

Here it is with the green light shining through.

And another photo in day time in the family room and the candle light off.

So now you can see those pretty button rosettes around the top of the shade.

We are leaving in two days for Florida and Walt Disney World for a few weeks!

We love our travel van trips.

I'll try to post a few times while we are relaxing and having fun visiting all the Disney parks.

Can I have one of these?

Pretty Please...!!!!!

Hubby brought the van up to the house this morning so we can check it over for supplies and start loading it.

Clothing and bedding is already there but I always like to re-check the shoes (got to have all my pairs of shoes - while Hubby has two!) and coats.

We picked out some DVDs, books and magazines for the trip yesterday.

My crochet stuff is gathered last.

We hope to have everything packed Saturday evening so we can get up, grab a quick breakfast and walk out the door very early Sunday morning.

It will drive me crazy while on vacation to see all the Christmas decorated blogs.

Maybe I can decorate our travel van a little.

We are limited on storage space so we can't take too much.

I think I will take my Candy Cane throw with us and maybe even a second Christmas throw.

Jack o'Lanterns

Don't ya just love Pinterest

Here's another cute, cheap and easy Halloween craft project I found there.

Source: familyfun.go.com via Jen on Pinterest

All I had to do was save two milk jugs and one OJ bottle in order to try out this DIY.

All materials needed were on hand so it didn't cost me a cent to make these.

Gather together scissors, paper, pencil, black felt tip pen, two empty and washed milk jugs and OJ bottle and three small battery candles.

Hubby used a craft knife and cut out the small holes in the back of the jugs to insert the battery candles.

I drew a Jack o'Lantern face for a pattern and cut out the holes.

You can also free draw the faces directly onto the jugs.

Then I taped the pattern to the jug and filled in the holes with a black felt tip pen.

Easy as pie and in just a few minutes I had three cute and FREE Halloween decorations.

You could easily use a string of lights inside the items instead of using battery candles.

Hubby suggested - if I planned to place them outside - to put small white stones inside the jugs to weigh them down so the wind doesn't blow them away.

I love these battery candles - they change colors from red, green, blue and yellow.

Hope I inspired you to try this easy and breezy project!

Cheap & Easy Dry Eraser Board

I'm still working away down in my craft room - reorganizing & de-cluttering my mess.

We moved the big cabinet out and repositioned the craft tables against the back walls.

The cabinet is very heavy but we were smart and left the moving pads under the corners the last time we moved it.  Those moving pads are wonderful - if you haven't used them you should.  We have several sets on hand to help us move furniture.

This is the "closet" we decided to put shelves in - this space was "roughed in for plumbing" by the previous home owners for a future powder room.  Previously this "closet" was filled with large plastic bins filled with...yep, you guessed it...my stuff.  I have a lot of stuff.  Too much stuff.  This "stuff" will probably be given to Good Will or tossed out.

Yesterday as Hubby was putting up the wall thingies (he says they are called shelf upright supports) he happened to wandered into a deep, dark corner of our unfinished area of our basement and found a cardboard box with a front panel insert for our old dishwasher we replaced last year.

As we talked about throwing the panel out since we didn't have that dishwasher any longer - I wondered if I would have  use for it.   Hubby isn't having an easy time de-cluttering our home with me around.

The dishwasher insert panel wasn't magnetic but as I looked at it an idea popped into my head that it would make an ideal dry eraser board - if the dry eraser pens worked on it.

This is the white side of the dishwasher panel the other side is almond.

Remember when almond was the "in" color to have in your kitchen?

I ran upstairs and wrote on it with one of my dry eraser pens.

Success -  the dry eraser pen ink wiped right off with my eraser.

 Yippee!

I attached it to my kitchen pantry door with - yep, you guessed it - those wonderful removable 3M Command strips.

Easy, cheap....actually free...my favorite kind of recyclable project.

I have to go through all my stuff that was out on my tables.  And under my tables...

And decide what can be stored in my craft closet on the new shelves.

All the shelf supports are up today - thanks Hubby!

We have to determine the boards sizes for each wall and purchase the wood.  Hubby just ran out to Lowe's/Home Depot to look at brackets and wood.

I like the openness of my craft room now.

There is plenty of open floor space for my future cutting table.

I like this cutting table I found (here) because the sides fold down and it's on wheels but I would prefer it in a slightly larger size.  I'll have to research some more.

So the moral of my story is...if you have extra dishwasher insert panels just sitting around (like we did)...

...try hanging one (like I did) as a dry eraser board.

Easy Home Made Chalkboard Sign

I love all the home made chalkboards I've seen in blogs and Pinterest.

I thought I would give it a try and make my own.

Last year I bought some Chalkboard paint in black.

The project stalled until one day I thought about my wooden Merry Christmas sign.  The back side is blank.  I could use the blank side all year as a chalkboard and turn it around for Christmas.

So I finally gathered up my supplies...the Merry Christmas sign, chalkboard black paint, scissors, painter's blue tape and a paper bag.

I had left over paint samples from Benjamin Moore in a light shade so I used that for my primer on the back of the Merry Christmas sign.  My Hubby came up and saw I was painting on our kitchen island and said I wouldn't let him do that...and he was right...I wouldn't.

I sprayed the chalkboard black paint outdoors...two coats...letting each coat dry over night.

This is the first saying I used on my new Chalkboard sign.

Right now the sign is just balanced on my stove.  I may use the removable Command 3M strips to hold it up on the tile wall so I don't have to worry about it falling down.

I changed it to this saying today.

I use the chalk ink pens in white.

The only negative so far is the chalk ink doesn't completely erase...you can very faintly see the previous writing.   I guess I can live with that.

A great place to find good sayings is on Pinterest.

Hope I've inspired you to try making your own chalkboard.

It was fun and easy.

I think for my next one I will use another chalkboard color paint....maybe light blue.

Vintage Valentine Wreath

I made this Vintage Valentine Wreath today!

It was soooooo easy!

You can download the cute vintage Valentines on Heather Bullard's blog (here).

I stick glued each sheet of Valentines to a sheet of card stock.

Then I cut around each Valentine with my fancy scissors.

Next I added Martha Stewart glitter to the Valentines just using a glue stick.

I found a piece of thick cardboard and used one of those metal compass thingies (with the pointed sharp end and the pencil at the other end) to trace two circles.

I cut out the narrow band of circle and stick glued a piece of red scrapbook paper to it.

I positioned the Valentines on the circle and use glue buttons to attach them to the cardboard circle.  A few of the Valentines were attached using foam tape to raise them up.

I put a piece of the foam tape on the back of the cardboard to attach the wreath to our fireplace brick.

What do you think?

Is this cute or what?

I think it turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself and it was super simple to make.

Hop on over to Heather's blog and try it out yourself.

My Easter Banner on April Fool's Day

I can't believe it's already April 1st!
April Fool's Day!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day is a holiday celebrated in various countries on April 1. The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friendsfamily membersenemies, and neighbors, or sending them on a fool's errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullibleTraditionally, in some countries, such as the UK, Australia, and South Africa the jokes only last until noon, and someone who plays a trick after noon is called an "April Fool".[1] Elsewhere, such as in France, Ireland, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Russia, The Netherlands, Brazil, Canada, and the U.S., the jokes last all day. The earliest recorded association between April 1 and foolishness can be found in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales (1392). Many writers suggest that the restoration of January 1 as New Year's Day in the 16th century was responsible for the creation of the holiday, but this theory does not explain earlier references.

There's no practical joke here though.  I've put my Easter banner back up on my interior front door and added a pretty little floral wreath below it.  The banner is attached to the door by magnets.

Here's a closer look... noticed I didn't forget my Bunnies...

Count Down to Easter

I hope to find enough photos to celebrate Easter and my love of Bunnies from today to next Easter Sunday!

These are bunny wood cutouts made by my late FIL.  I painted them and placed them on the door frame above the door in our dinette/kitchen that leads into our finished basement.  I leave them out all year long.  Why?  Because I love them!

Do you have seasonal decorations you leave out all year?
