Party with Patrick

One of the on-going monthly sewing classes I signed up for is "Party with Patrick".

I attended the first one this month.

Adding a decorative quilting stitch.

Now I had no idea who "Patrick" was so I was looking forward to meeting him.

So I was surprised when I arrived at class to see a woman hosting the class rather than a man.

Quilting all done.  Now on to stitching the appliqués.

Apparently I was the only one there who didn't know who "Patrick" was - his full name is Patrick Lose - and he's a famous quilter/designer, author etc.

Needless to say Patrick won't be hosting our classes - rather we would be using his patterns and designs for our projects.

Two appliques with satin stitch down and two to go.

Our host presented our first pattern, a Christmas "Stocking for Stuffing", by Patrick Lose.

Our pattern kit included fabrics provided by the store.

Inside lining and decorative exterior all done.

The class was informal and fun.

And it was nice not to have to drag our sewing/embroidery machine and accessories to the class.

Lining attached - just have to insert it in the stocking.

Making the lining a little longer added an easy binding around the top!

This is the first Christmas Stocking I have ever made.

Unfortunately Patrick's pattern instructions were vague, out of order and certainly not for a beginner.

Thank goodness for the Internet and all those lovely ladies who share their knowledge.

I googled "making a Christmas Stocking" and found an excellent tutorial by "The Crafty Germini".

It helped refresh my sewing skills needed for this project.

And here is the finished Christmas Stocking!

I had fun quilting the red fabric background with a decorative green thread quilting stitch in a checkerboard pattern.

This is the other side.

Then I moved on to placing the appliqués with red thread in satin and blanket stitches.

I'm glad it's finished because every-time I woke up last night (just about every hour on the hour...errrrr) I was thinking about the next steps and what order I needed to proceed.

Do you do that too?

Not too bad for my first embroidered/quilted stocking!

Now I have a lovely Christmas Stocking to display.

I wonder what our next Patrick Lose pattern will be?

You know me...I would love anything to sew with a Christmas theme.

Have I mentioned how much I love my new Janome Horizon Memory Craft 12000 sewing/embroidery/quilting machine!!!!!

(One of these days I hope to get back to crocheting too!)

  5. Hi Sandy-
Love this little stocking. I also LOVE youtube...for the reason you mentioned. I mine Youtube like it's giving up GOLD... YOU KNOW?
Anyway...what a funny twist to the Party. I'm sure it will be great getting your sewing mojo back. That is kind of what I'm doing. Although, I've never had sewing mojo...I'm just now acquiring some. :)
To answer your question...I wake up all through the night with little details of projects on my mind. I don't think it ever shuts off!
