My Bird House Thimbles

I collect thimbles because they are tiny so they don't take up a lot of space. 

 And most important...they are pretty.

This is my thimble collection of birds and bird houses.

Many years ago I belonged to a thimble club until it was discontinued. 

 Someday I will have to post about that collection - it is one of my larger ones.

I like to buy a thimble souvenir when we travel too...that is if one is available. 

 I've grouped my travel thimble collection together in a little wall shelf unit.

My bird thimbles combined my love of birds with my love of thimbles.

Fun at Home Goods

This morning I ran over to Home Goods. 

I hadn't been there in ages. 

 Look what I found to hang on my kitchen teacup wall!

I ❤ birds and can't resist cute bird plates when I see them.

I also picked up some new pillow covers for our family room. 

I bought two pillow sham sets in similar colors but different patterns.

 I like to use standard bed pillows with shams because they are easy to change out and are washable...not to mention comfortable.

We are going to be fixing up our family room this summer with new flooring and new furniture. 

 I'm leaning towards light colors like blues, tans, yellows and creams with pops of red.

I also purchased a tall, dark wood candle stick for our fireplace mantel. 

 I may paint it another color though to keep with my new decor theme of lighter tones for the room.

I'm going to try to hang the bird plate with 3M Command Strips.

I wasn't sure if it would work because the plate has that little ridge on the back and I hoped the strips would be thick enough to overcome the height of the ridge to attach to the wall firmly.

So far...so good!

See I found the perfect spot for it!

Now if I could just hide that ugly door bell thing.

Update:

As I was sitting here wondering if I should add a second command strip to my bird plate...

 I heard a loud crash...

it hadn't been up but a few minutes...

Luckily it didn't break anything else on its way down.

Today I'm sharing with you a pretty teacup I found in a gift shop in Delaware several years ago.  

Unfortunately there was no saucer with the teacup.

The colors and detail are just stunning.

Hubby and I gave this bird picture to his mother many years ago.  

Isn't it lovely?

I particularly loved the roses painted on the frame.

Birds Feeding...for Decades!

The stunning Cardinal

While putting away some Christmas linens in our closet I found an old embroidery crewel I never finished.  

I bought this crewel project in 1980 (...yes, I admit it... that's 1980...probably before most of you were even born!) - it's entitled "Birds Feeding" designed by Linda K. Powell.

I love birds.

I love to watch them.  

We've had a birdbath and feeder at our first two homes for the birds.  However, at our current house, we decided to just have the birdbath and no feeders - mainly due to the mess the birds make when feeding and our not wanting to attract any more mice to our home.

Someday this will be a Grosbeak - see the bird seed!

I remember this Blue Jay being hard for me to embroidery while the Cardinal wasn't difficult at all.

In addition to the Grosbeak there is a Towhee, Purple Finch, Woodpecker and Chickadee left to embroider.  Oh, boy...I have my work cut out for me!

I have too many hobbies and things I want to do and not enough time to do everything.   Yep, I'm complaining...here I am retired and still can't do all that I want to do. 

I've been so busy with Christmas...and then reading my new books, watching our new DVDs and playing with our new iPhones... and (sob!) I have hardly touch my crochet hook and yarn.  

And then I find this!  

I so want to finish it.  

Before it rots.

American Robin In Our Yard

I love my jacuzzi tub!

The robins sure enjoy our bird bath jacuzzi on our deck.

I think this may be a male Robin.

I love the warm orange chest of our American Robins.

Just in case you don't have Robins where you live here is some additional information:

American Robins are fairly large songbirds with a large, round body, long legs, and fairly long tail. Robins are the largest North American thrushes.  The quintessential early bird, American Robins are common sights on lawns across North America, where you often see them tugging earthworms out of the ground. Robins are popular birds for their warm orange breast, cheery song, and early appearance at the end of winter. Though they’re familiar town and city birds, American Robins are at home in wilder areas, too, including mountain forests and Alaskan wilderness.

Mr. Cardinal

I should save this photo for REDnesday!  

I saw Mr. Cardinal sitting by our heated birdbath this morning and grabbed my camera hoping he would fly over to get a drink.  Even though the sun is shining beautifully this morning it is only 30 degrees F. !  

I took this photo through the wood shades from our kitchen window.   

I just love the bright red of Cardinals.
