I Love To Read & Crochet

Yesterday I relaxed out on our screened in porch reading a good book while snuggled up in my ripple throw. As much as I love to crochet my favorite hobby is reading.

I grew up with a father and two brothers who liked to read too.

My brothers were into science fiction so I grew up loving anything sci fi!

Now I get to talk about my second hobby - crocheting. I've mastered Edie's #86 and started working the border in green modifying the flower placement to be further apart so that each flower is placed between each granny rose square.

I didn't want the little green flowers to compete with the white granny rose squares.

Once the green flower border is finished I will add an edging in red and white I think.

Back to reading - I'm waiting for the latest book in the series, "A Song of Ice and Fire," to come out in paperback.

The TV series, "Game of Thrones," is doing a fantastic job of following Mr. Martin's books.

We found a wonderful non-chain book store in a neighboring town and I iPhoned several books that looked interesting.

This book appears to be written from the doggie's point of view.

I like to read anything about Rome and/Romans.

Historical novels are my cup of tea and the thicker the book the better!

Time to read and crochet!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I'll start off this post showing you the pretty good stuff like our shed's flower boxes.

Lovely aren't they!

Moving on from the good to the bad and ugly...

I've spent the last two days weeding around our screened in porch and side of the house while the weather has been cooler. I've learned to pace myself so I'm not a complete wreck and all crippled up the rest of the day.

No hubby to help me... he hates yard work.

So...some stuff will have to be hired out.

I know this is pretty hard to take - quite an ugly sight isn't it?

I can't plant anything until I get the @$$ downspouts buried.

All four of them!

I hate them!

We've asked our landscaper for a quote to bury them but haven't heard back yet.

Time to get on the phone and see if he wants our business or not.

There is no end to the ugly!

It may take a few years to get the back yard fixed up the way we want it.

At least the shrubs and trees are doing nicely.

It's a great night for TV viewing "Game of Thrones" and "Mad Men"!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

It's beautiful here now but we have rain coming!

Look at What I Found at Target

We were shopping at Target for a chaise lounge for our screened in porch...

(found one we liked which was on display but not in stock and sales guy couldn't order one in or tell us when a new shipment would arrive????  What kind of customer service is that Target???)

...when my eye caught this fabric wall bird print.

It has the same colors as this hook rug that I recently hung in our living room.

Here are two views in the daytime.

I hung it on the opposite wall from the hook rug.

Here are two night time views.

At night it looks different and I like that.

I love this bird print!

And it only costs $15.00.

After some practice and reading the directions and staring at the diagram for Edie's #86 I finally figured out how to do this stitch.

I practiced in white yarn but will do the border in green.

I have lots of chores to do today - cleaning, laundry and sorting though linens to declutter my stash.

Have a lovely weekend!
